Do you have goals for saving coins this year? Where do you save coins? Are you the old school type who saves coins in a piggy bank? Maybe you have gone hi-tech and save coins in a container that keeps track of the amount. Sometimes you need a repurpose for that washed gallon Ziploc bag or you can’t stand all the coins mixed together and need a container that stores them separate. Maybe you are putting to use a cute homemade container. Maybe you don’t save coins.

At my house all types of saving coins containers are in use. Pictured in the photo above are my family’s actual containers for saving coins. For fun you could probably match the person with the container. It can help motivate people to save with the right container.

The result of using cash for most of your purchases is a pocket full of coins. Now you could be super frugal and keep the coins in your purse and use them to save your dollars, or at the end of every day, week, or month dump your coins into a coin container best suited for your personality. Make it a family affair where everyone saves their coins then vote on what to do with your coins at the end of the year.

Saving Coins Ideas

  • Fun Family Event
  • Donate a water buffalo to a family in Africa
  • Field Trip to Washington, D.C.
  • Dinner at a fancy restaurant
  • Buy more books or games

We decided last year our goal for saving coins would be a family event. Even the grandparents saved coins for our fund. Since our bank has one of those lovely machines that counts all the coins, I don’t lose sleep over how we are going to come to a grand total of coins saved.

Drum roll…..we saved $157.65 just in coins.

In two weeks you will find my family spending one night at Great Wolf Lodge. With an off-season middle of the week discount we have put our coins to good use. Yes, Mom and Dad pitched in a small amount of extra coins to cover some of the cost.

How are you saving your coins? Which container do you use to save coins?

We have our oyster jars in the garage one for each denomination of coin, slowly, but surly, saving for our character meals and our treasurers while in Disney…….we have a ways to go, but we’ll make it!
