Choosing a Word for 2015

Last year my word was squirrel…and boy did I spend my year chasing them.

I am choosing a word for 2015 …STONES!

No, not kidney stones and I am way too old for sticks and stones.

In the Bible, Jesus taught about building on a firm foundation. Honestly, my foundation feels like a broken down wall about to fall over.

If you have been on Facebook or any other social media platform everyone is talking about writing goals for 2015.

Well I would like to confess…I have never written a goal.

I think I have spent the last 20 years with the mind set of I am going to survive. There is my #1 derailment…I just tell myself you can survive this…and there is where I stay…just surviving.

Choosing a Word for 2015: Why Stones?

Somehow chasing squirrels online I found myself listening to a guy talking about writing goals. He has this system with a 5 stones metaphor for writing and achieving goals. He even describes his program as how to slay your giant goals.

While I am too broke to purchase his system and probably too crazy to find time to learn a new system…I could glean one nugget from his passion.

There are different levels of goals, some you can easily achieve and some that will require a ton of effort. Easy would be 1 stone and hard would be 5 stones.

Really he does a better job explaining but I really like having a rating system that comes with a great visual of stones.

Then I stumbled upon a few discussions on why did David choose 5 smooth stones to go to battle against Goliath.

Which lead to a great quote by Max Lucado in his book Facing Your Giants: The God Who Made a Miracle Out of David Stands Ready to Make One Out of You.

Stones

Which led to a Pinterest search of crafts made out of stones. Then a trip to the craft store so I could build a visual of Choosing A Word for 2015.

Because STONES are going to remind me to Focus on God when the giant attacks happen.

My stone art work will remind me to write goals and keep me from falling back into the habit of just surviving.

Much better than squirrel! 🙂 holding you accountable in 2015!

Oh no…so maybe I need to build a slingshot and use my stones to get rid of the chasing squirrels.

  2. I love how each thing you found led you to the next. I love when God gently guides us the direction we need to head. I have a small stone on my night stand. It says “let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.” It’s a much needed reminder for me.

Thank you for linking up to the New Year Resolutions & Goals #linkup. I shared your post on StumbleUpon and Pinterest!

Loved stopping by your blog! Yes the journey finding the word is just as exciting as my word!

I love the stones. My 17 yr old daughter has a similar process where she throws a whole lot of words on paper, cuts them up then picks one. The words are things she wants to experience in terms of her inner self. This year her word is gratitude.

Then she finds a nice round stone and uses white out to paint the word onto the stone, and that stone sits in her room where its the first thing she sees when she enters her room.

I think I may incorporate this into our home life here, when I find the time to find a stone and a word and some sissors lol. All the best for 2015 and building your foundations.
