Biology 101 Series

If you are new to the series I recommend starting with Biology 101 Series, unit one and two. The Biology 101 Series does offer a course outline for completing the program with enough hours for a high school credit. We have chosen to add labs and other hands-on learning to the suggested course load. I hope these posts help you as you construct a high school level biology class.

This is a list of the extras we completed.

Biology 101 Series Aquatic Creatures:

  • We completed a perch dissection. Although I am sure my daughter would have preferred this cake version of a perch dissection.
  • Rapitest Pond Test Kit provided a great chance to learn how PH, ammonia and nitrates levels can affect the health of a pond.
  • We used a microscope to observe tiny creates living in the pond water.
  • We set-up an aquarium at home.
  • Although fishing was not on the lesson plans, we ended this unit dropping a few lines in the water.
  • The Biology Coloring Book has pages on aquatic ecosystems and food chains.

  1. Hi Stacey,
Great posts. Does the Biology 101 include labs? I see you added a perch dissection. Does the 101 Series include dissections?

Would you recommend this for a high school biology course?

    Sue

  2. Stacey says:

    Sue,
It does not include labs. I added those in. I think this makes a great Bio course for someone who is not majoring in the sciences at college, or needs the course for high school. My daughter is going to college to become a pastry chef, I call this science for the non science majors.

Oh my it is hard when a child does not share a parent’s passion. Let me ask my daughter to remind me of what I had her do for the last 2 units. Sadly she did this over the summer and I forgot to write about it.
